The short answer: If you like Umingle’s text and video chat but want fewer paywalls, the closest options are StrangerCam (free, no account, but no filters) and Camloo (no account for basic use, filters cost extra). Emerald Chat and OmeTV suit people who do not mind creating an account.
What Umingle is like (tested 15 October 2026)
We opened Umingle in a desktop browser on 15 October 2026 and used both its text and video modes.
- Text and video: both are offered from the home page.
- Free to start: the Smart Match button and optional interest tags are available without paying. Video chat needs your camera, and the on-screen rules say your camera must show you, live.
- Rules on screen: you must be 18 or older, no nudity, hate speech or harassment, and no asking for gender. Umingle says violators will be banned.
- Premium: the upgrade screen lists country filters, language filters, better matches, instant skips and no ads. Prices we saw: $5.99 for 1 hour, $12.99 for 24 hours and $29.99 for 7 days, payable by PayPal or card.
- Ads: the free version shows ads. During our visit, a full-screen ad appeared over the page.
- Mobile: the site worked on mobile for our tester.
We did not measure how many of Umingle’s matches are bots, so we make no claim about that here. If bots are your worry on any site, read our guide to avoiding bots on video chat.
Looking for Uhmegle?
We also opened uhmegle.com on 15 October 2026. Its home page says “you can now use Umingle instead,” and its Start button reads “Start chatting on Umingle” and takes you to Umingle. In other words, a visit to Uhmegle currently ends up on the same chat as this review. We cannot tell you who owns either site, so we do not list Uhmegle as a separate alternative here.
Why people look for alternatives
From what we saw, the common reasons are practical: country and language filters sit behind a paid plan, the free version has ads, and video needs a camera. Here are four sites that handle those points differently. Details on each come from our own reviews, so check the review for the date of our last check.
1. StrangerCam: free, no account, no filters
StrangerCam is a free video chat with no account needed. The trade-off is that it has no gender or country filters and only limited moderation. Mobile web works, though our review says it feels better on desktop. Read our StrangerCam review.
2. Camloo: no account for basic use
Camloo offers random video and text chat in the browser, with built-in translation that our review says free users get. Gender and country filters are premium, at $19.99 a month. There is no native app. Read our Camloo review.
3. Emerald Chat: interest matching and a karma score
Emerald Chat has video, text and interest-based group rooms. Guests can enter, but registration is needed for all features, including its karma system. Emerald Gold costs $5.89 a month and unlocks gender filters, priority matching and ad removal. It works in a mobile browser. Read our Emerald Chat review.
4. OmeTV: apps and translation, but you must sign in
OmeTV offers video and text chat with automatic translation of text. You must sign in with Facebook, Apple ID or a phone number first. The country filter is available, and gender filters need in-app coins. It has native iOS and Android apps. Read our OmeTV review.
