What is Uhmegle?
Uhmegle is a random video and text chat site. Its name points straight at Omegle, which shut down in November 2023, and its home page describes the same basic idea: chat with strangers in random video or text chats, with optional interest matching.
An important update, checked 15 October 2026: the Uhmegle home page now says “you can now use Umingle instead.” Its Start button reads “Start chatting on Umingle” and takes you to Umingle. In other words, today the chat you reach from Uhmegle is Umingle’s. We cannot tell you who owns either site, and we have not tried to find out.
What we saw on 15 October 2026
We opened uhmegle.com in a desktop browser and read its home page and FAQ. This is what it says about itself:
- Features it lists: interest-based matching, moderated chats, a global community, and instant and anonymous chat.
- Interest matching: you add interests such as “tiktok” or “youtube,” and the matching engine prioritizes people who list overlapping interests.
- Moderation: it says it uses a combination of automated systems and human moderation, and links to its Chat Rules.
- Mobile: it says the site works on phones, tablets and desktops, and that no app download is required because it runs in your browser.
- The chat itself: the Start button opens Umingle. The page footer reads “© 2025 Uhmegle.com.”
We did not see Uhmegle’s answer about registering, so we make no claim about sign-up on Uhmegle itself. Everything above describes what the site says. We have not measured how well any of it works, and we did not measure bots.
Our take on Uhmegle
The honest summary is short. Uhmegle’s own site tells visitors to use Umingle, so a review of Uhmegle’s features is really a review of what its home page promises. We have not tested the chat behind it from this page. If you want a chat that needs no account to start, see our no sign-up guide.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Interest matching is part of the pitch and the site explains how it works.
- Runs in the browser with no app download, according to the site.
- States that it moderates with a mix of automated systems and people, and publishes Chat Rules.
Cons
- The Start button opens Umingle, so you end up on a different site from the one you searched for.
- The home page gives few specifics about price, filters or how moderation works in practice.
- Unclear ownership. We cannot say how Uhmegle and Umingle are related.
Is Uhmegle safe?
We cannot give a verdict on safety from reading a home page. Uhmegle says it combines automated systems and human moderation, but we have not tested how well that works. As on any anonymous chat site, keep personal information private, leave a chat as soon as you are uncomfortable, and use the report button.
Alternatives to Uhmegle
If you want to try something with a clearer picture of what you get, start with these reviews:
- Emerald Chat: video, text and interest-based rooms, with some features behind a paid plan.
- OmeTV: apps for iOS and Android and automatic translation, but you must sign in first.
- StrangerCam: free with no account, but no filters.
- FreeCam Chatter: start a chat from the page without creating an account.
